A day trip to NYC

I always miss the city when I have been away from it for a while. After working in New York for 9 years, and of course, growing up right in the shadow of the greatest skyline in the world, I truly cannot stay away for long. In my mind I glorify the whole experience: the throngs of people, the hustle and bustle, the sensory experience that is New York City. And then I take off from working in my suburban gallery and go there for the day... And I remember why I opened my suburban gallery in the first place and how I the experience that is New York has been candy coated in my mind.

The reality is that the throngs of people are there and they kind of all smell a little bit foul and are mostly speaking a language that I have never heard in my life. The hustle and bustle is created by these throngs, most of whom will knock you over on their way to wherever they are in a rush to get to and wherever you are going is not NEARLY as important as where they are going. The sensory experience of New York, had you not known better, might be clouded by the stench of the homeless person on the subway bench right across from you. And if you don't move to a different seat it might even get worse...of course, I am exaggerating...aren't I? :)

Of course, New York City is still home to me, still the greatest city in the world in my mind and by tomorrow, I will miss it. What can I say?

Photos shown in this entry are as follows:
A group of people on bleachers in Times Square, silhouetted against the lights of a very active billboard...the restaurant in SOHO with great burgers, terrible drinks and a long wait for anything. Think they were a bit short staffed and my friend, Michele and I were very patient (thank God for wine...) and also included is a shot of my friend's purse. What you are looking at is M & Ms...very bad snacking habit for us yesterday...almost killed the whole bag between the two of us! Long train rides still suck...
