FINE CRAFTS 101!

I have always wished there was a local class that would teach artists starting out what they needed to know to operate a professional creative business. As much as I can appreciate creating as a hobby, once you make the decision to sell your work through a gallery or anywhere else, you should be thinking like a business person. This is a struggle for a lot of people starting out and now, there's a way to get the beginning tools you need to help guide your business journey.

After being asked separately to put together a workshop for years by our respective students and clients, Michele Grady and I finally decided to team up to provide interested students with the tools to begin the journey of creating a viable creative business. We're excited about this new program!

A New Workshop Designed to Help Artisans Grow Their Businesses

MEDFORD, NJTwo Local Entrepreneurs Teaching New Workshop to Help Others Succeed

With the current state of the economy, staying viable is a great accomplishment for any small, independently run business. Often, creative types struggle with turning their creative aspirations into a solid business venture. This February, two local accomplished entrepreneurs will be sharing their industry knowledge with artists and artisans seeking to create a viable business out of their creations. Their first workshop, Fine Crafts 101: The Business of Selling Your Creations, will be held February 11th, 2012 from 10am-4pm.

The workshop instructors collectively share close to 30 years of industry experience in creating, marketing, displaying and selling fine craft. Julie Basello-Holt owns Creative Genius Art Gallery & Studio, a Medford fine art/fine craft gallery and studio that has been in operation for the past 8 years. In addition she co-owns True Story Photography. She also brings 15 years of management and training experience to the workshop from her prior corporate management career. Michele Grady has been working with metals for 20 years. She owns and operates Michele Grady Designs, which offers her unique jewelry designs, created solely by her and offered in galleries and shows throughout the United States. She has also taught her craft to hundreds of students for the past 10 years in various venues throughout South Jersey.

Both businesswomen are excited about helping other creative people learn how to organize and grow their respective businesses. They offer the unique advantage of presenting the business of fine crafts to their students from both the artist and gallery perspective in a fun, friendly workshop designed to inspire the students they work with.
